Phylogenomics and taxonomic revision of Rhopalodiales - diatoms with cyanobacterial endosymbionts.
Welcome to the world of algae!
Welcome to the Algae World! Specifically, the world of microscopic algae. Algae are not a taxonomic group, but rather a disparate group of organisms that all have chlorophyll a, have single-celled gamete-forming cells, with water-dispersed spores and includes their colorless relatives.
Project Background and Goals
Many educational materials in local languages are often out of date. We work with school leaders and publishers to ensure that students have access to current textbooks that are age appropriate and written in their primary language.
Resources and Outreach
We create bespoke continuing education programs to address the needs of teachers and their student communities. From training on the latest technology to new pedagogical methods, we help teachers make their classrooms engaging and successful.
Phycology in the 21st Century
In many places that offer courses on Freshwater Algae, some are offered at field stations where natural history, ecology and taxonomy are highlighted. In on-campus courses, the focus may be on systematics and evolution, based more and more on evidence derived from molecular data. In the workshop “Freshwater Phycology in the 21st Century” we aimed to offer a learning environment in the context of a field station that combined the excitement of field expeditions and discovery, viewing and identifying algae with a light microscope in the lab.
